Comparing mass using a standard measure

Today we were comparing the mass of various objects against a standard unit of measure (a bag of sand).  We discovered some objects that were lighter and some that were heavier than the sand.  We couldn't find anything today that was the same mass- we will have to do some more searching!

Masks

As part of our Science unit (learning what materials compose the various objects around us) we made masks.

Comparing mass using a balance scale

Yesterday we learned to compare the mass of some everyday objects.  Our goal was to find objects in our classroom that were either lighter or heavier than one of our shoes!

Comparing mass

We are learning about the mass of objects.  Recently we read a book called "Who Sank the Boat?"  It is a silly book about a group of animals that all want to be in a row boat at the same time.  They discover that their mass is unfortunately too great to all fit!  We had fun in class comparing the mass of various objects and discovering which objects sank our little plastic boat.
